Massimiliano Delle Vedove and Luca Mastrantoni unite for fire-focused omakase dinner at Ekstedt at The Yard on Bonfire Night

On 5th November, Ekstedt at The Yard in Westminster will host a one-night collaborative dinner with Madrid’s Smoked Room, bringing together two chefs for a fire-focused culinary event. Head chef at the London venue, Luca Mastrantoni will team up with Massimiliano Delle Vedove from the acclaimed Spanish restaurant to prepare a seven-course omakase-style menu, combining elements of Japanese precision with Spanish fine dining techniques, all centred around open-fire cooking.

The event marks a rare collaboration between two high-profile restaurants known for their use of flame-based techniques. Ekstedt, located within the Great Scotland Yard Hotel in central London, is the first international venture by Swedish chef Niklas Ekstedt, who is recognised for his use of traditional Scandinavian cooking methods. The restaurant places emphasis on seasonal British ingredients and wood-fired preparation. Meanwhile, Smoked Room, hidden within Leña Madrid and part of chef Dani García’s restaurant group, is notable for its intimate setting and unconventional approach to haute cuisine. The 14-seat restaurant gained attention in the culinary world after being awarded two Michelin stars within six months of opening – a rare distinction. The London event offers an opportunity to experience their fire-driven style outside of Spain for the first time.

The menu for the evening will be jointly developed by Mastrantoni and Delle Vedove, drawing from their respective culinary backgrounds through a sequence of seven courses to reflect the “drama and depth of open-fire cooking” – appropriately enough for the date, which coincides with the UK’s Bonfire Night celebrations.
