The Good Oak, a long-standing pub in Notting Hill, West London, recently reopened following a significant refurbishment. Formerly known as The Oak, the venue has undergone a redesign of both its interior and culinary offering, led by owner Steven Shamoon and Executive Chef Alex Craciun. The relaunch aims to revitalise the location while maintaining its established character.

Located on Westbourne Park Road, The Good Oak is now operating under a new concept that includes a Los Angeles-inspired Italian menu and a reimagined interior space. The relaunch is part of Shamoon’s broader vision to adapt to shifting trends in London’s hospitality scene. “I saw nightlife change in London,” said Shamoon. “There’s more emphasis on community, conversation, and comfort. I wanted to create a place where people feel just as comfortable popping in for 15 minutes as they do staying for six hours, a second home where you can connect, eat incredible food, and feel completely at ease.”

The kitchen is overseen by Craciun, who previously worked with Alex Ghalleb of Five Graces. The new menu features dishes such as Chicken Parm Bites, a TGO Hot Dog, and Scotch Meatball, which is a twist on the traditional Scotch egg. Larger plates include Josper-cooked Baby Chicken and Ribeye Steak. The venue has retained its original wood-fired pizza oven, with the pizza dough recipe remaining unchanged, though ingredients have been upgraded.

Design studio Alix Gét was brought in to redesign the space with a “home away from home” ethos. The renovation includes plush furnishings, layered décor, and a centrally located bar intended to restore a traditional pub feel. Custom furniture and banquette seating by Andrew Thornton have also been incorporated.

Upstairs, a new space called Above at The Good Oak has been introduced, a multi-use venue for events such as DJ nights, live music, and community gatherings. A custom-designed piano by artist David King Reuben serves as a focal point.
