Da Long Yi launches winter Sichuan hotpot menu at Soho flagship

Da Long Yi, a Chinese hotpot chain originating from Chengdu, has launched its new Winter menu at its only UK location in Soho, London. The seasonal dishes aim to bring a heightened sense of culinary artistry and traditional Sichuan flavours to the capital’s food scene.

With over 300 restaurants globally, Da Long Yi is recognised in China for its Sichuan hotpot cuisine, particularly its bold flavours and visually striking presentations. The Soho branch, which marks the brand’s first venture into the UK market, continues this tradition with the addition of two new menu items designed for the colder months.

The first new dish, Volcano Beef (火山牛肉 / 岩浆牛肉), features thinly sliced marbled ribeye or tenderloin arranged in a cone-shaped formation resembling a volcano. The presentation is completed at the table, where a heated sauce made from chilli oil, fermented chilli paste, garlic and other aromatics is poured over the meat, creating a visual effect likened to molten lava cascading down the sides.

The second dish, Peppercorn & Herb Beef Tripe (椒麻草香毛肚), consists of fresh beef tripe marinated in green Sichuan peppercorns and a selection of herbs, including coriander and mint. When briefly cooked in the communal hotpot, the tripe offers a balance of crisp texture and the characteristic numbing sensation associated with Sichuan peppercorns.

These additions are part of the restaurant’s effort to showcase the sensory and interactive nature of Sichuan hotpot dining, which is traditionally a communal experience involving a simmering pot of broth in which diners cook a variety of meats, vegetables and offal at the table. For the most adventurous foodies, among the delicacies on offer are duck gizzard, pork intestines, chicken claws, and duck tongue. A feature not to be missed is the sauce bar, where over 20 condiments and toppings let guests build their ideal flavour combo.

While Da Long Yi has not announced further UK expansion plans, the Soho location continues to serve as the brand’s flagship in Britain. The restaurant’s seasonal updates reflect a broader trend in London’s Chinese dining scene, where regional specialities are gaining greater visibility and appreciation.
