Sam’s Riverside and Waterside venues in Hammersmith in Brentford will host special events this January to mark Burn’s Night. The two West London restaurants will offer guests a three-course menu, whisky cocktails and live performances from piper Robin Turnball. This year, each restaurant is presenting a bespoke menu crafted by their respective head chefs, Karol Mielczarek and Abbie Hendren, both preceded by a welcome dram of Woven whisky.

Burn’s Night, held on 25th January, commemorates the life and works of Scotland’s national bard, Robert Burns. It features a traditional supper (often with haggis, neeps – turnips – and tatties – potatoes), accompanied by bagpipes, poetry recitations (especially the Address to a Haggis), whisky toasts and Scottish music and dancing, concluding with Auld Lang Syne. Honouring the Scottish celebration in style, Turnball is scheduled to play at Riverside at 7 and 8.30pm, and at Waterside at 7.45pm and 9.15pm. regalling guests traditional Scottish songs on the country’s national instrument.

At Sam’s Riverside, diners can expect starters such as Smoked Haddock Cullen Skink, Lincolnshire Poacher Cheddar & Leek Tart or Gin and Juniper Cured Scottish Salmon. followed by main course options including Homemade Vegetarian Haggis, Scottish Steelhead Trout, Scottish Rump of Lamb or the traditional Rabbie Burns Supper accompanied by a Neeps and Tatties Terrine. Desserts on offer are Winter Fruit Cranachan (a mixture of whipped cream, berries, toasted oatmeal and whisky, sweetened with heather honey), Clootie Dumpling (a spiced fruit pudding) with clotted cream or Dark Chocolate and Shortbread Tart with Oat Crème Fraîche.

Meanwhile, Sam’s Waterside will serve Scottish Morning Rolls with salted Stirling butter, followed by starters like Tattie Soup, Cured Steelhead Trout or Aberdeen Angus Beef Carpaccio. Main dishes and accompaniments include Saddle of Highland Venison with Rumbledethumps (an old dish of baked mashed potatoes, cabbage and often swede or onions, topped with cheese), a Haggis Bridie (savoury pastry filled with haggis), Isle of Gigha Halibut and Heather Honey Glazed Neeps. Dessert choices range from Tipsy Laird (a whisky trifle) to Warm Dundee Cake with Marmalade Ice Cream and a Scottish Cheese Plate.

A selection of whisky cocktails will be available at both locations, including the Bonnie Moor-Hen (Scotch whisky, orange liqueur, honey, cinnamon and citrus), the Penicillin (blended Scotch, lemon, honey, ginger and peated whisky) and the Rob Roy (Scotch whisky, sweet vermouth aromatic bitters).

The event is priced at £65 per person, and tickets are limited. Bookings can be made via each restaurant’s website.
