Franco’s introduces blue-zone inspired menu as London diners seek healthier options

Franco’s, one of London’s longest-standing Italian restaurants, has introduced a range of dishes inspired by the blue-zone diet, aiming to offer diners more nourishing options. The new menu items became available this month at the restaurant’s location on Jermyn Street, reflecting a growing interest in health-conscious dining in the capital.

The blue-zone diet is based on the eating habits of populations in regions known for their high life expectancy, such as parts of Italy, Greece and Japan, where eating habits typically emphasise plant-based foods, seafood and moderate portions. Franco’s has incorporated these principles into several new dishes and drinks, appealing to customers looking for lighter, nutrient-rich meals.

Among the new offerings are fresh salads, such as Endive with Pear, Gorgonzola and Walnuts, Rocket Leaves with 36-month Aged Parmesan and Beetroot with Caprino Cheese and Pine Kernels. The menu also includes soups such as a Classic Minestrone and Black Truffle with Cauliflower and Chestnut. For seafood enthusiasts, options include Cold Poached Native Devon Lobster with Samphire, Tomato, Broad Beans and Spicy Mayonnaise, Sautéed Mussels on Grilled Sourdough and Hand-picked Devon Crab with Avocado, Lemon and Multi-seed Crackers.

In addition to food, Franco’s has expanded its drinks menu to feature non-alcoholic cocktails made with ingredients believed to have health benefits. These include the Saicho Hojicha Mule, which combines Saicho Hojicha sparkling tea, hibiscus syrup, fresh blackberry and lemon juice. According to the restaurant, this drink “supports digestion and boost energy”. Another option, the Matcha & Lavender, is made with matcha powder, lavender tea, grapefruit, bergamot tonic, lemon juice and sugar syrup. The restaurant states it “helps improving cardiovascular health with antioxidants, promoting a state of relaxation.”

Franco’s has been a fixture of the London dining scene for decades, serving Italian cuisine from breakfast through to dinner. The restaurant takes pride in its traditional dishes and refined, contemporary setting. The move to introduce blue-zone inspired dishes reflects an effort to cater to evolving tastes, particularly among diners interested in nutrition and wellness.
