London Distillery Company releases capital’s first ten-year-old single malt in new era for whisky

London’s oldest distillery has released the capital’s first ten-year-old single malt whisky, marking a significant milestone in the city’s modern whisky revival. The London Distillery Company will unveil its new expression, Ten Times Around the Sun, on 27th February. The limited-edition release, comprising just 220 bottles, is available exclusively via the distillery’s website and represents a decade-long effort to re-establish whisky-making in London after more than a century of absence.

Ten Times Around the Sun was distilled from Quench spring barley and laid down in an ex-bourbon cask on 20th October 2015. The whisky, priced at £89.95 per bottle, was matured for ten years before being bottled at 51.4% ABV. It is presented non-chill filtered and with natural colour, allowing consumers to assess it as developed in the cask.

The launch of this single malt is notable not only for its age but also for its place in London’s whisky history. The London Distillery Company was originally founded in 2011 in Battersea, the first distillery to open in the city since 1903. The producer played a key role in reviving London’s whisky scene, combining traditional methods with a modern identity. However, they faced challenges and ceased operations in 2020, leaving the brand’s future uncertain. Now, they are undergoing a revival, with this historic release intended to preserve its early story while signalling future ambitions.

According to Matt McKay, managing director and whisky maker: “Ten Times Around the Sun marks a defining moment for The London Distillery Company. It honours one of our earliest casks, capturing the original spirit that began our work. This release is a tangible piece of London’s whisky history, surviving the distillery’s closure in 2019 and now emerging as a symbol of our return. This is a whisky born of our past, shaped by our revival, and confidently demonstrating our bold, bright future.”

Ten Times Around the Sun‘s bottle features artwork depicting ten orbits around the sun, reflecting its decade of maturation. Tasting notes describe it as a bright, fruit-forward whisky, with aromas of peach and mango, a palate of preserved fruits, milk chocolate and creamy cereal, and a long finish with ripe fruit and Szechuan pepper. The release follows the company’s success with its sherry cask single malt, Embarque, which won gold at the 2026 World Whiskies Awards.
