1864 Rooftop Bar & Kitchen reopens atop John Lewis Oxford Street for summer dining and drinks

The 1864 Rooftop Bar & Kitchen has reopened for the summer season at the top of John Lewis’s flagship Oxford Street department store, offering Londoners and visitors an al fresco dining and drinking destination with private greenhouses, an open-air terrace and views across the capital’s skyline.

The menu centres on tapas-style sharing plates drawing on Mediterranean influences. For nibbles to start off the evening or to accompany a cold glass of wine, there are snacks like BBQ Rice Crackers, Gordal Olives and Blistered Padrón Peppers. Then there are larger plates such as Whipped Feta with Green Olives, Sun-dried Tomato Salsa, Pine Nuts and Focaccia and Chorizo Croquetas with Manchego, crispy Smoked and Salted Cod Arancini or an Oyster Mushroom Shawarma. There’s also fried chicken, Courgette Fritti with Jalapeño Mayonnaise and a selection of seasonal salads featuring combinations such as mixed grain with a mint and mustard dressing or cauliflower, gem and radicchio with maple tahini.

To round off the sharing plates, desserts on the menu – shared or otherwise – include Pavlova with Citrus Curd and Raspberry Granola and churros served with hot chocolate sauce and toasted pistachios.

The drinks list has classic and contemporary cocktails like the Kumquat Old Fashioned, a Calamansi Margarita with a spiced ancho chilli rim, a Bramble and the 1864 Peach & Pear Bellini. Non-alcoholic options come in the form of a Garden Cooler with cucumber and mint, a strawberry-infused Mountain Summer Cup and more.

Named after the year John Lewis was founded, the rooftop venue operates in partnership with Benugo, the hospitality company established in Clerkenwell in 1998 by brothers Ben and Hugo. The bar and kitchen is open Monday to Saturday from noon until 10pm, and on Sundays from noon until 9pm, with live DJ sets scheduled on Friday and Saturday evenings.
