London’s only Senegalese restaurant, Little Baobab has launched a new Food and Live Music Night series at its Africa Centre location in Southwark, offering diners a monthly evening of traditional cuisine and live acoustic performances from African artists. Priced at £35 per person, the festivities take place on the second Thursday of each month, with the aim of bringing Senegalese culture and its tradition of hospitality to the capital.

Food and Live Music nights combine a buffet of traditional Senegalese dishes with a live concert performed upstairs throughout the evening. The restaurant describes the concept as rooted in Teranga, a Senegalese cultural value centred on hospitality and community, which has informed Little Baobab’s approach since its founding.

The buffet menu features a range of dishes drawn from the country’s culinary tradition. Among the highlights are Thiebou Yapp (a lamb dish served with onion sauce), Chicken Yassa (grilled marinated chicken with lime-caramelised onions) and Vegetarian Mafe, a rich stew made with vegetables and peanut butter. The spread also includes fried plantain, jollof rice, a selection of Senegalese snacks and Attaya, a traditional sweet tea.

Live acoustic performances from original and emerging African artists will give guests the opportunity to listen to music from Senegal and the wider African continent following their meal. Music has long been considered central to Little Baobab’s identity, and the new series is intended to formalise and expand on that.

For those looking to experience Senegalese food and culture in London, the monthly series represents one of the few dedicated opportunities to do so in a setting that places equal emphasis on cuisine and live performance.
