Holm in Somerset unveils summer programme of outdoor dining, live music and events

Nicholas Balfé’s restaurant with rooms, Holm, in South Petherton, Somerset, has announced a programme of outdoor dining, live music and seasonal events running from May till the end of September, as the venue’s terrace reopens for the summer season.

The programme launches on 2nd May with an afternoon event on the terrace that’s centred around a barbecue menu. Dishes on offer will include a Slow-cooked Otter Valley Lamb Bun with pickles and slaw, a Miso-glazed Aubergine Bun with pickles and slaw, hot honey chicken wings and fries with aioli. £7 cocktails will be available, including an Aperol Spritz, their Gin Basil, peach Bellinis and a house Pimm’s Cup – and they’ll be priced the same way every Saturday until 7pm for the whole of the summer.

Live music will form a central part of the opening afternoon, beginning with a set from Cuban ensemble Millie Requelme Duo, before giving way to DJ sets from the Balfearic residents (a collective that includes Will Saul, Gerv and Natali Stajcic as well as Balfé himself). A children’s crafting table and lemonade stand, run by the chef’s children, will also be in operation during the afternoon.

Following the launch, the terrace will operate on a rolling four-week programme. Regular fixtures will include Fireside Suppers – long-table outdoor dining built around open-fire cooking – and Balfearic sessions, which combine small plates with DJ sets running from afternoon into evening. Dishes for these are expected to include options like Salt Cod Croquetas, Burrata with Grilled Peach and Basil, Gambas with Chilli and Garlic and a BBQ Bream Fillet with fennel salad. The full à la carte menu will remain available inside throughout.

Monthly wine tastings are also scheduled, beginning with the First of the Summer Wines on 13th May, followed by an English Wine Week tasting on 11th June. The venue has also confirmed a connection with local folk festival programming, with Holm featuring in the South Petherton Folk Festival on Saturday 20th June. Further events are expected to be announced as the season progresses.

The terrace will see some physical changes this year, with new garden furniture installed, a small sandpit added for younger visitors, and new planting by Charlie of Mimosa & Moss intended to make the space lush and leafy. The space will be open for morning coffee and breakfast as well as lunch, afternoon drinks and early evening dining.

The events season is scheduled to close with a party on Saturday 5th September, featuring live Latin music from Benjamin y Los Estrellas, a barbecue and children’s activities.
