Macellaio RC returns to Genoa after 14 years with new restaurant in historic palazzo

Italian restaurant group Macellaio RC will open a new location in Genoa on 11th June 2026, representing a significant return to the city where founder Roberto Costa first established the concept more than two decades ago. The new restaurant is situated just 500 metres from the site where the brand originated in 2003, and will be housed within Palazzo Branca Doria, a historic 13th-century building in the heart of the city.

The opening marks Costa’s first return to Genoa in 14 years, and brings the brand back to its Italian roots following its expansion into the London restaurant market.

The venue itself carries considerable historical and cultural weight. Diners will eat beneath Bernardo Strozzi’s Renaissance fresco The Triumph of David, within walls that are said to have inspired a tercet in Dante’s Divine Comedy, which references both the people of Genoa and the Branca Doria family. The setting positions the restaurant within one of the city’s most architecturally and historically significant buildings.

Heading the kitchen will be Executive Chef Edoardo Ferrera, a former Michelin-starred chef based in Milan with an international profile. Ferrera’s remit will extend beyond Genoa; he will also oversee culinary operations across Macellaio RC’s existing London restaurants and any future international openings, suggesting the group is planning further expansion.

The Genoa menu will change according to the seasons and will feature premium Italian produce alongside beef sourced from Lake District Farmers in England. The approach reflects the brand’s longstanding focus on high-quality ingredients, with an emphasis on accessibility rather than exclusivity.

Macellaio RC currently operates several restaurants in London, where it has built a reputation for its commitment to quality meat and Italian hospitality. The Genoa opening represents the group’s first restaurant in Italy and signals a broader international ambition under Ferrera’s culinary leadership.
