First-ever Houmoffs houmous competition comes to London as top East Mediterranean restaurants face off

On 2nd June, for the first time, chefs from ten of London’s leading East Mediterranean restaurants will meet to compete at The Houmoffs 2026 – a one-night contest aimed at determining the UK’s best houmous. The event, partnered with Uber Eats, will be hosted by Brother Marcus in Victoria and attended by 200 guests, including the media, industry figures and members of the public, who will taste and vote on the winning versions. Tickets are priced at £10 and are on sale now.

The competition will be divided into two categories: Classic and Signature. Chefs will present traditional recipes alongside modern interpretations of the dish, with attendees acting as judges throughout the evening. The participating restaurants are Berber & Q, Brother Marcus, Bubala, Comptoir Libanais, Maroush, Oden London, Miznon, Naroon and Sohaila.

The occasion is being organised by East Mediterranean restaurant group Brother Marcus, which operates the host venue on Buckingham Palace Road. They say the competition aims to highlight both traditional houmous-making techniques and contemporary variations, while drawing attention to London’s East Mediterranean and Middle Eastern food scene.

Houmous has gained incredible popularity in the UK in recent years, with the dip moving beyond its traditional role as a supermarket staple to feature prominently on restaurant menus across the country. Tasos Gaitanos, co-founder of Brother Marcus, said: “Houmous has officially outgrown the supermarket shelf. With younger consumers leading the way and cities like London embracing it, it’s become a full-blown food movement. At The Houmoffs, we’re bringing together everything from perfect classics to bold, unexpected creations, and showing just how versatile this dish can be.”

He added: “Brits clearly can’t get enough of it, so this is all about celebrating the creativity, passion and a bit of friendly competition that comes with it.”
