Ready-to-drink cocktail brand MOTH will return to east London this June, giving away 10,000 free canned margaritas on a first-come, first-served basis at a three-day pop-up venue on Shoreditch High Street. The event, which they’ve called MOTH: Licence – the You, Me, Marg Edition, will run from 12pm to 7pm each day and marks the start of the brand’s summer campaign in the capital.

The pop-up has been designed to mimic an off-licence or corner shop, with visitors able to collect ready-poured cocktails in cans. According to the company, the format is intended to combine the familiarity of a local shop with the offering of a cocktail bar. The featured drink, MOTH Margarita, is a 125ml serve at 14.9% ABV, made with Tequila Enemigo. Alongside the giveaway, the venue will host live DJ sets across all three days, prize draws and appearances from the brand’s partners over the course of the weekend.

MOTH, an acronym for Mix of Total Happiness, is a B Corp-certified business that produces canned cocktails in fully recyclable packaging. The brand reports that it currently sells one can every five seconds in the UK and is the country’s largest premium ready-to-drink brand in the grocery sector. Its products are stocked by major retailers including Waitrose, Sainsbury’s, Tesco, Whole Foods, ASDA, Co-Op, Morrisons and Ocado, and are also available on British Airways short-haul European flights and Iceland Air services. The company has recently expanded distribution to the US.

The range has received several industry accolades in recent years, including gold medals for its Margarita, Negroni and Espresso Martini at The Spirits Business Pre-Mix and RTD Masters in 2022 and 2023, and a Great Taste Award in 2023 for its Piña Colada and again for the Espresso Martini. MOTH was also named Drinks Brand of the Year at the Grocer Gold Awards 2024.

Co-founder Rob Wallis said: “MOTH: Licence started as a playful take on the corner shop – somewhere everyone knows, but not like this. Bringing it back to Shoreditch with 10,000 margaritas just feels right. It’s a simple idea: great cocktails, big surprises and a reason to get together as summer starts in the city.”
