UK-based restaurant group Pizza Pilgrims is reintroducing its Americana pizza – topped with sliced hot dogs and chips – across all of its British pizzerias throughout June and July to mark the FIFA World Cup 2026 being hosted in the United States, Canada and Mexico. The pizza, which first appeared on menus in 2023, divided opinion online at the time of its initial release.

Despite its unconventional appearance to British diners, the Americana is based on a recipe commonly found in Neapolitan pizzerias across Italy. The Pizza Pilgrims version features a white base, sliced hot dogs and chips, prepared using the chain’s slow-proved dough and traditional Neapolitan methods.

“Proper Italophiles will know this is actually a super legit pizza found all over Italy,” said Pizza Pilgrims Founder James Elliot. “To the untrained eye, it might look like an abomination, but for many Italians, it’s the pizza they grew up eating. We’re bringing it back to celebrate the World Cup being hosted in America – and this time, we’ll see if the nation’s ready for it.”

Alongside the pizza’s return, several Pizza Pilgrims branches will operate as live screening venues for the tournament. The Canary Wharf, Chelsea, Shoreditch, Hyde Park and Nottingham sites will show all England quarter-final, semi-final and final matches, with tickets available now.

The screenings are being held in partnership with Beavertown Brewery. Tickets are priced at £4 and include a guaranteed seat, a beer on arrival and additional activities including games and prizes throughout the evening. The venues will feature communal seating arrangements rather than a traditional sports bar format.

In addition to its own pizzerias, Pizza Pilgrims will supply pizzas to pubs screening matches across the United Kingdom during the tournament, extending its presence beyond its own restaurant network.

The FIFA World Cup 2026 will be the first edition of the tournament to be jointly hosted by three nations and the first to feature an expanded 48-team format. The competition is scheduled to take place across 16 cities in the United States, Canada and Mexico.

Pizza Pilgrims was founded in 2012 by brothers James and Thom Elliot and now operates more than 20 pizzerias across the United Kingdom, specialising in Neapolitan-style pizza.
