The BBC has released a first-look clip and artwork for the second series of cult Northern Irish comedy Funboys, while also announcing a new YouTube spin-off series ahead of its return this month.

Created by and starring Ryan Dylan and Rian Lennon, the comedy follows the well-meaning but frequently chaotic residents of Ballymacnoose. Series two sees the gang back after the events of the first season, with Callum sporting a new perm, Gemma and Lorcan enjoying a blossoming romance, and Jordan attempting to keep his life on track. Naturally, things do not stay peaceful for long.

The new series will also feature a guest appearance from I’m Alan Partridge star Steve Coogan, alongside returning cast members Brian Devlin, Owen Colgan, Paul Bazely and Richard Croxford.

According to the BBC, the latest run will see the “soft bellied boys of Ballymacnoose” grappling with everything from the legacy of the Irish potato famine to bigotry, balding and competitive robot combat.

Alongside the new episodes, the BBC has commissioned Fair Game: A Video Game Review Show Presented by Funboys, a spin-off YouTube series hosted by Jordan, Callum, Lorcan and Gemma. The short-form series will see the quartet offer their opinions on videogames, joined by guests including voice actor Roger Craig Smith, known for roles in Sonic the Hedgehog, Assassin’s Creed and Resident Evil.

Executive producer Simon Mayhew-Archer said he was “extremely grateful to the BBC for continuing to back new comic talent”, while Coogan praised the team as “an original voice in comedy” with “bright futures ahead of them”.

Produced by Mayhay Studios for BBC Three, BBC Northern Ireland and BBC iPlayer, Funboys series two premieres on BBC iPlayer and BBC Northern Ireland on 15ᵗʰ June, before airing on BBC Three on 19ᵗʰ June and BBC One on 20ᵗʰ June.
