Mercato Metropolitano to celebrate Pride Month with LGBTQ+ night market in Elephant & Castle

Mercato Metropolitano Elephant & Castle will host an LGBTQ+ Night Market on Wednesday 18th June from 6pm to 11pm, in collaboration with The Big Market, to mark Pride Month in London. The event, held at the food and cultural venue on Newington Causeway, will bring together more than 25 independent traders, makers and creatives, alongside food stalls, DJ sets and free creative activities.

The Big Market, which has operated for four years supporting independent businesses, says the majority of its team identifies as queer or LGBTQ+. The organisation has positioned the Pride event as an extension of the community work it carries out throughout the year.

Attendees will be able to browse goods from London-based independent businesses, including handcrafted ceramics by Svc Eramics, soy candles from Seka Candles and tableware from Four Tune Studios. Other stallholders include Swiss Salad Sauce, a family-run food business, as well as a range of jewellers, artists and designers drawn from the city’s emerging independent scene.

In addition to the market stalls, the evening will include free creative workshops and an arts-and-crafts area open to all visitors. Organisers say the programme is intended to provide space for connection within London’s queer creative community.

The venue’s wider offering will also be available during the event. Mercato Metropolitano houses more than 40 international street food traders, and the evening will feature live DJ sets across the site. Visitors will also be able to play Crazy Boules, the venue’s retro crazy golf-inspired course.

Mercato Metropolitano was founded in Milan in 2015 as a community-focused food market concept aimed at making sustainable, high-quality food more widely accessible. Its urban spaces bring together independent traders, artisans and local producers, with an emphasis on seasonal ingredients, cultural diversity and environmental responsibility.

The brand opened its first London site at Elephant & Castle in 2016 and has since expanded to include Mercato Mayfair and venues at Elephant Park, Wood Wharf and Ilford.
