Ivan Ramen reopens in Farringdon with tachigui service and two-for-one launch offer

Ivan Ramen, the London branch of the ramen restaurant founded by chef Ivan Orkin, reopens in Farringdon this Monday, having closed for a couple of weeks to overhaul its operations. The restaurant has adopted a tachigui-style service model intended to make ordering quicker, and is marking the change by offering two-for-one on selected ramen bowls between 12pm and 4pm across the week following the launch, from 22^nd to 28^th June.

Tachigui is a traditional standing-counter dining style associated with Japanese ramen restaurants. The approach is designed to improve efficiency and reflects the dining culture associated with ramen bars in Japan, where they are a common feature of daily life. The restaurant says the format suits a range of visits, from a quick lunch to a solo meal or an evening out.

The two-for-one promotion applies to a selection of bowls, specifically the Shoyu Ramen to the Truffle Veggie Ramen. The restaurant is also introducing a loyalty scheme during the first six weeks following the relaunch. Customers who visit once a week during that period can obtain a Black Card, which entitles holders to 20% off for the remainder of the year.

Ivan Ramen was established by Ivan Orkin, a chef who has appeared on the Netflix series Chef’s Table. Orkin first opened Ivan Ramen in Tokyo before expanding the business to New York and Las Vegas. The Farringdon site opened in November 2025 and has built a following in London for its ramen and small plates, drawing both regular customers and first-time visitors.

The repositioning of the Farringdon branch represents the latest stage in the restaurant’s expansion. 

The tachigui model places emphasis on speed of service, with the streamlined ordering-and-payment process reducing the time diners spend before receiving their food. The restaurant has presented the shift as bringing its London operation closer to the practices of ramen bars in Japan, where the format is widely used.
