Shake Shack UK celebrates first anniversary of Wildfarmed regenerative flour partnership in burger buns

Shake Shack UK has marked one year since it began using regeneratively grown flour in its burger buns through a partnership with the British farming brand Wildfarmed. The collaboration, which launched in 2025, has seen the restaurant chain incorporate flour produced using farming methods intended to improve environmental outcomes across its UK operations.

More than 35 tonnes of Wildfarmed flour have been used across the initiative since it began. Shake Shack’s burger buns continue to contain regeneratively farmed flour, making the brand one of the first fine-casual restaurant concepts in the UK to introduce flour produced in this way.

Wildfarmed flour is made from wheat grown in the UK using a regenerative agriculture approach. The method focuses on improving soil health, increasing biodiversity, reducing water pollution and lowering carbon emissions through farming practices designed to work alongside natural processes. The partnership is aligned with the company’s Stand For Something Good mission, which covers ingredient sourcing, employee development and community investment.

Richard Franks, Business Director at Shake Shack UK, said: “Our burger buns make up part of the core foundation of Shake Shack, so we’re proud they continue to deliver the same great taste and quality, now made with regeneratively grown flour from Wildfarmed. This partnership reflects our commitment to doing what’s right over what’s easy, investing in better farming practices and greater transparency, while ensuring the Shake Shack experience stays exactly as our guests expect.”

Edd Lees, Co-founder of Wildfarmed, said: “Shake Shack has helped bring regenerative farming to a wider audience through a product millions of people already know and love. Initiatives like this help raise awareness of how food is grown and the positive impact farming can have on the environment. We’re proud to continue working together to make regenerative agriculture more visible and accessible across the UK.”

Wildfarmed was founded in 2018 by Andy Cato, George Lamb and Edd Lees. The company has built a network of farmers and businesses across the UK and France and created the Wildfarmed Regenerative Standards, the UK’s first third-party audited regenerative standards for arable farmers. The standards are intended to provide growers with a commercial framework while encouraging practices that restore soil health and support biodiversity.

Shake Shack opened its first location in New York City’s Madison Square Park in 2004 and has since expanded to more than 660 locations worldwide, including over 245 international sites in cities such as London, Hong Kong, Shanghai, Singapore, Dubai, Tokyo and Seoul.
