German Doner Kebab (GDK) has named London as the UK’s leading kebab city and announced a week-long promotion offering 50% off main dishes from 6th to 12th July 2026, to coincide with World Kebab Day on Friday 10th July.

The Glasgow-based fast food chain released the findings of a survey of 2,000 Brits, who identified London as top of the list of the nation’s kebab cities, followed by Manchester and Birmingham, with Glasgow and Liverpool completing the top five. The survey also examined attitudes to kebabs among Gen Z consumers and found that more than half of said they were tired of eating the same lunches. Just over one in five explained they would most often choose a doner kebab for lunch – closely followed by another 20% who regularly opt for a supermarket meal deal.

The data also challenged the perception of the kebab as primarily a late-night food. Almost half of Gen Z respondents – or 47% – said they enjoyed eating a kebab while sober. Nearly two in five said they believed the kebab had improved in recent years, while one in three said they would even go for kebabs on a date.

As part of the campaign, GDK opened a phone box in Camden Market where members of the public were invited to share their views on a range of kebab-related questions. These included whether they would trust someone who eats a kebab with a knife and fork, what constituted the biggest kebab “red flag” and which sauce should be banned. In return for their thoughts, participants received a free GDK OG Kebab and merchandise.

German Doner Kebab operates more than 150 restaurants across the UK, continental Europe and the Middle East, and has been expanding into the US, Canada, Saudi Arabia and Ireland. Next week’s offer applies to all their main dishes, including the OG Kebab, OG Jr, the plant-based and vegetarian OV Kebab, Doner Wrap, Doner Burrito and Doner Quesadilla, in both large and regular portion sizes. The discount is valid for dine-in and takeaway orders at all UK restaurants and cannot be combined with any others, though it can be used with the Make It a Meal option.
