Yo! teams up with Tamagotchi for nostalgia-fuelled summer menu

The Japanese-inspired restaurant chain Yo! has partnered with the digital pet brand Tamagotchi for a limited-edition summer menu, available in UK restaurants from 21st July to 6th September. The collaboration, the first between the two companies, features a range of new dishes alongside collectible items and marks the return of Yo!’s Kids Eat Free offer for the school summer holidays.

Both brands arrived in the UK in the late 1990s. Yo! opened its first restaurant in 1997, introducing the conveyor-belt sushi format to British diners, while Tamagotchi, the digital pet created by Bandai, was first released in 1996 and became a one of the most recognised products of the decade. The new menu draws on that shared history and continued interest in 90s nostalgia.

There are several new dishes on the menu. The Chicken Katsu-Kun Sando (£12.95) has chicken katsu served in brioche buns with slaw, smoky mayonnaise and katsu sauce, with a pumpkin version also available for £11.95. Meanwhile, the hearty Bulgogi Chicken Karaage-Kun Fries (£12.95) are topped with chicken karaage, spicy teriyaki sauce, sesame seeds and crispy onion. Two curry options are also on offer: the Mega Katsu-Chan Curry (£13.95), which combines chicken, prawn and pumpkin katsu with curry sauce and steamed rice, and a vegetable version (£12.95) featuring pumpkin katsu and vegetable gyoza.

In selected UK restaurants, customers can get their hands on Tamagotchi Gashapon collectibles, and a Kiddo Bento Box with a Tamagotchi theme and limited-edition stickers will be available to order. A Build Your Bento option (£7.95), included in the Kids Eat Free offer, allows diners to choose a protein, a maki roll, a side and a drink, with a dorayaki pancake available for an additional £1.50.

Samantha Kemp, marketing director at Yo!, said: “This is a collaboration we’ve genuinely been excited about. Yo! has always stood for bold flavours and endless fun. Tamagotchi brings that same playful energy that’s had people hooked since the 90s. Put the two together and there’s a summer menu that’s as nostalgic as it is delicious.”

Yo! now operates beyond its original restaurant format, supplying freshly made sushi through kiosks in Tesco stores, pre-packed sushi and a range of sauces, condiments and frozen meals available in major grocery stores. Tamagotchi remains in production under Bandai and continues to be sold as both a vintage product and a modern collectible.
