Caravan Covent Garden unveils My Neighbour Totoro pre-theatre menu

Caravan Covent Garden has introduced a limited-edition, Japanese-inspired pre-theatre menu created in partnership with the West End stage production of My Neighbour Totoro, available at the restaurant until 11th October. The selection is served as the adaptation of the Studio Ghibli feature continues its run at the nearby Gillian Lynne Theatre, and can be ordered on its own or as part of the restaurant’s existing Prix Fixe offering, which is priced from £25 for two courses and £29 for three.

The collaboration features three dedicated specials: Furikake Spiced Corn Ribs as a savoury option, served with soy pickle, Japanese mayonnaise and togarashi; for dessert, a Matcha and White Chocolate Mousse with lime jelly, miso cream and sesame brittle; and finally a Sakura cocktail, which combines gin, Everleaf Mountain botanical, hibiscus and lemon foamer. And there’s more – parties of up to four who present a valid theatre ticket can also enjoy a complimentary coffee, cocktail or portion of cornbread for each person at the table.

The Caravan group operates several sites across London, including branches in King’s Cross, Bankside, City and Fitzrovia, and offeres an all-day menu drawing on a range of international influences. The Covent Garden restaurant sits a hop, skip and a jump from the Gillian Lynne Theatre on Drury Lane, where My Neighbour Totoro has been staged by the Royal Shakespeare Company. The production, adapted from Hayao Miyazaki’s 1988 animated picture, follows two sisters who move to the Japanese countryside and encounter forest spirits, and has been celebrated for its evocative puppetry and its score by the film’s original composer, Joe Hisaishi. It first opened in 2022 and has returned to the West End following a series of extensions.
