Circa Waves at the Sebright Arms
From Liverpool via Transgressive Records, these four guys are the best new thing according to NME – well, it’s true. They are the best new thing in terms of melodic pop rock music à la The Libertines and Two Door Cinema Club, but with a personal twist. At the Sebright Arms (still one of the best venues in East London) the band played their rapid live set of 30 minutes, having just released two A/A singles: Good for Me/Get Away and Stuck My Teeth. Despite their few songs launched, the curiosity and the attention around the band is already quite high, considering the members of the press at the show and the full crowd at the venue.
With a typical post-punk look – sneakers, t-shirts and tight jeans – these four Scousers came onstage late, and played nine songs from the singles and from the upcoming LP. Tracks like Young Chasers, Get Away and Good For Me highlight the perfect sound of the band: energetic pop rock in the shape of The Strokes, with fast rhythm section, tight guitars and sing-a-long choruses. This trend lasts for all the other songs – Shoot the Sky, Catch My Breath, Best Years and Stuck in My Teeth giving a significant sense of coherence to the live performance.
The young age of the audience describes perfectly the target of the band, fashion addicted youngsters in their early 20s, but the music of the band is still genuine and the effort put into the music by the members of the band is absolutely remarkable. It is clear that the band will become something in the music business, as it has all the ingredients for the perfect success: clean-faced boys, nice music and hyped appeal. Good luck guys.
