Return to retro: The new season wish list

Return to retro: The new season wish list

Retro is back! From the beehive hairstyles to the bell-bottom trousers to the oversized sunglasses. As the new season edges closer there’s no doubt we’re going to be throwing it right back and returning to retro when it comes to our wardrobes. To show this, The Upcoming have collected together some essential pieces that everyone and anyone can wear to follow the trend, as well as some advice on how to style these retro staples.

Knee high boots

If you’ve not noticed the number of knee high boots floating around the fashion world then where the heck have you been?! These boots are super versatile, they keep your legs warm, feet dry and they’re bang on trend, what’s not to love? Not only do they follow this major current trend but they’re also incredibly flattering and can make your legs appear slimmer and longer. Pair them with long skirts, short skirts, jeans, dresses, leggings, basically anything!

Floppy hats

70s style wide-brimmed floppy hats are making quite the comeback with the retro trend. This key piece is generally an inexpensive investment that works in any season, so it’s definitely worth purchasing one. They can create a real bo-ho chic vibe and look so cute with a blouse and jeans, or flares if you’re really working the retro trend!  This style of wide-brimmed hat can take almost any outfit from simple to sassy in an instant!

Flared trousers

Inspired by bell-bottoms worn during the 60s and 70s, flared trousers are another key piece we’ll see featuring in this trend. The flare at the bottom of these trousers is perfect for elongating the legs, and the high-waisted flared bottoms are an increasingly popular style that looks great on most body shapes.

Fringing

Fringing can work on a range of pieces from dresses to jackets and from skirts to bags. A bit of fringing adds a hippie vibe to an outfit and is an easy way to bring the retro trend into your collection of new season clothes. However you decide to wear fringed detailing is up to you but as long as you do, you will look extremely chic and totally retro.
