Ratter depicts the classic horror-story nightmare that someone may be watching everywhere you go, standing over you as you sleep, or hiding around the corner as you walk around the empty flat alone.

Director and writer Brendan Kramer presents a brilliant cautionary tale, highlighting the extent that our lives are lived through technology. The film gives an insight into the life of Emma (Ashley Benson) through the perspective of her stalker as he tunes into her life through the webcams of the many electronic devices she is connected to. Kramer does well to maintain the feasibility of each shot, provided only from laptops and phones; this can be, at times, a stomach-churning ride. Benson emulates day-to-day activities without a hint of self-consciousness, providing the essential natural atmosphere to maintain the illusion of the ever-present predator, re-enforced by Matt McGory’s performance as the likeable and endearing predator.

Ratter an innovative experiment that suffers slightly from a cliché-ridden script (the volatile and unbelievable ex-boyfriend provides an easy red herring). However, this does not detract from the whole.

An exhaustingly tense and intriguing outlook at the adverse risks of the technological revolution.
