Adele speaks out about body image issues

Adele speaks out about body image issues

Sometimes it can be hard to believe that with such a heavenly voice Adele is only a human being. Though she doesn’t shy away from showing us glimpses of her humanness – like when she admitted to being banned from her own Twitter account because she had a habit of drunk tweeting. Recently, she opened up about having a negative body image, joining millions of other men and women across the globe.

Adele’s highly anticipated third album, 25, has hit the shelves and with it comes a new Adele. The singer is eating healthily and hitting the gym, though she admits that she is not a fan and is definitely not “skipping to the f-ing gym”. It’s hard to miss that she’s gone through quite the transformation and, like most celebrities, is under heavy scrutiny about her body.

In late 2012, Karl Lagerfeld and Joan Collins made comments about Adele’s weight, stating that she could stand to lose some weight. Adele, who’s always been quite candid on the subject, stated that she didn’t think about her body image and felt no pressure to be “some skinny mini with my t-ts out”.

In a recent interview Adele admitted that she does in fact deal with body image problems, but she said “I don’t let them rule my life, at all”. For Adele it is all about the music and she states that her recent gym visits are for her health and prep for her upcoming tour.

Issues with body image are something many people struggle with as the media is still overrun with unrealistic portrayals of what the human body, male or female, should look like. Luckily Adele isn’t the only one speaking up on these issues. Other examples include Gina Rodriguez, Gigi Hadid and Jennifer Lawrence – who was recently spotted with Adele on a night out with fellow actress Emma Stone.

Adele urges everybody to focus on the bigger issues in the world and accepting yourself the way you are. “There’s only one of you, so why would you want to look like everyone else?”
