Tom Sellers to launch immersive pop-up inspired by Robin Hood

With the announcement that Tom Sellers’s Restaurant Story in Tooley Street will be closing for refurbishment on 31st March, comes the news that the Michelin-starred chef will be launching a pop-up in nearby Southwark Street called Merry Men. Inspired by Robin Hood’s band of followers and a tribute to Sellers’s upbringing in Nottingham, this one-off pop-up will take place at a 19th-century warehouse from 4th until 22nd April 2018.

The menu aims to incorporate the chef’s “passion for history and provenance by bringing [in] elements of storytelling” and will offer banquet-style fare to visitors. Dishes will use seasonal foods and be traditionally prepared. For those who wish to dine, tickets must be pre-booked and are priced at £65 for four courses, including a drink. Guests can expect to try Bone Marrow, Eel and Parsley; Smoked Haddock in Milk; Braised and Hot Smoked Lamb Leg, Anchovies and Capers; Beef Cheeks in Hay; and Lardy Cake with Salted Blackberries and Cultured Ice Cream. Each Wednesday, Sellers will cook alongside guest chefs and so far Pip Lacey on 11th April and Jason Atherton on 18th April are confirmed.

Merry Men will be open for dinner from Wednesday to Saturday and for lunch at the weekends. The venue is spread out over three floors and will also boast an “enchanted forest” bar serving woodland-themed cocktails created by mixologist Matt Whiley and supported by Bombay Sapphire. A bar menu offering snacks – called “Pig Tales” – will also be available. Bringing the pop-up to a close on 22nd April will be a market day entitled The Last Feast, where items from the event – such as crockery, cutlery and glassware – will be on sale, with the profits being donated to London-based charity Hospitality Action, which supports people in crisis who are working in the hospitality industry.
