Six simple skin care tips for summer

Six simple skin care tips for summer

We all know the routine. Winter arrives and we’re so worried about the cold drying out our skin, we begin a strict regimen of cleansing, exfoliating and scooping out half a tub of face cream for every application. Then, summer arrives. We get preoccupied making the most of the heat and moping our sweaty brows that we end up with burnt shoulders and painful peeling. No more. Skin care doesn’t need to be a complicated, time consuming chore as these six simple tips will demonstrate!

Sunblock or sunscreen?

This one is a no brainer but we are all guilty of forgetting to apply sunscreen at some point. It will not stop you tanning, it will protect you from burning your skin. If you prefer total coverage purchase a sunblock designed to block out the sun’s rays entirely.

Wear nothing…

…on your face! The summer heat causes our pores to open and make-up then clogs them up so try going make-up free as often as possible.

Don’t skip moisturiser

When you’re sweaty, understandably the last thing you’ll want to do start applying moisturiser. Remember however that sweat is loss of moisture and very dehydrating. Re-hydrating by drinking water and using moisturiser is essential to the prevention of dry skin. Just make sure it’s nice and clean before applying.

Hydrate

Drinking enough water is always a necessity. It aids healthy digestion and improves our circulation therefore it’s advisable to drink around 8 small glasses a day, roughly two litres. This allows your body to easily flush out toxins that cause imperfections, giving your skin a much healthier appearance.

Keep it clean

Make sure you’re keeping your skin nice and clean by showering regularly and washing your face and body with gentle cleansers that won’t irritate your open pores. Finish off with a spritz of cooling water to close up your pores and prevent dirt getting in.

Kiss dry skin goodbye

Even though they’re right there on our faces, it’s so easy when thinking through our skin care routine to forget about our lips! Make sure you have the perfect pout by sporadically exfoliating your lips with a gentle lip scrub to remove any dry, dead skin cells. Once every other week should do it. Once the scrub is removed, pat your lips dry and apply a natural, healing lip balm.
