Mark Jarvis, chef patron of Anglo in Farringdon and Neo Bistro on Oxford Street, has expanded to a third site in Mayfair. His latest venture, Stem, is situated in an 18th-century building and aims to be, according to its owner, “informal, but precise in terms of its modern British food.”

The restaurant seats 35 diners and features a “verdant living wall.” A lower-ground level offers a more private dining experience with a six-seat chef’s granite table. An international wine list has been devised by the company’s operations manager Jon Cannon.

Heading up the kitchen is Sam Ashton-Booth, formerly head chef of Anglo, who is serving up “modern seasonal British dishes”, available to sample on both à la carte and tasting menus. Also on board is Emma Underwood, the restaurant’s manager, who gained a glowing review in her last role at sam Buckley’s Stockport restaurant When the Light Gets In. Starters include Smoked Chicken Tortellini; Beef Tartare with Enoki Mushrooms, Shiso and Pickled Cucumber; and Cornish Mackerel with Fennel

Among the mains Pigeon, Beetroot, Grilled Onion, Peanut and Cherry; Slow Cooked beef cheeks, Turnip and Samphire; and Aged Sirloin of Beef, Pickled Cucumber Shiso and Bone marrow are some of the stand-out options.

Finally, a selection of desserts includes Hazelnut Cake and Hay Ice Cream and a Chocolate Cake with Mandarin Sorbet and Chocolate Mousse

Stem is open on Mondays for dinner, from Tuesday to Saturday for lunch and dinner, and on Sunday from 11am to 4pm.
