The Banshees of Inisherin is the new Irish dramedy that reunites acclaimed playwright and filmmaker Martin McDonagh with the stars of his 2008 feature film debut (and now bona fide cult classic), the black comedy crime thriller In Bruges: Colin Farrell and Brendan Gleeson.

After charming critics in both Venice and Toronto, his latest movie, which explores male friendship and loneliness, shot through with both witty banter and startling violence, landed at London Film Festival with justified fanfare. The Upcoming were there on the red carpet at the Royal Festival Hall to steal some time with the director and cast to discuss the making of the movie.

The film’s stars stopped to share their reflections on first reading the crazy script and how they developed their relationship on and off-screen.

We were also lucky enough to grab a few moments with McDonagh on the importance of returning to his Irish roots for his first feature film based there and reuniting with Gleeson and Farrell on set.
