Lady Chatterley’s Lover: On the red carpet with Emma Corrin, Joely Richardson, Matthew Duckett and Laure de Clermont-Tonnerre at the London Film Festival 2022

Lady Chatterley’s Lover: On the red carpet with Emma Corrin, Joely Richardson, Matthew Duckett and Laure de Clermont-Tonnerre at the London Film Festival 2022

This adaptation of the controversial original novel by DH Lawrence brings to screen a scandalous and female-centred story that remains faithful to its source and initial portrayal whilst bringing it to a modern audience with a well-known, current ensemble cast and visionary director.

The story follows Lady Constance Chatterley (Emma Corrin) who, upon learning her husband Clifford (Matthew Duckett) has returned from war a broken, self-pitying man, paralysed from the waist down, then embarks on a steamy romance with the gamekeeper, Oliver (Jack O’Connell). The torrid affair unearths her feelings of being trapped in a loveless marriage and all the expectations of high society.

With Laure de Clermont-Tonnerre at the helm, the film is a timely feature bringing together the idea of female resilience and pleasure to the forefront and in turn, her adaptation adds to the popular melting pot of raunchy period dramas like Bridgerton.

The Upcoming had the pleasure of interviewing the cast and creatives on the red carpet at the London Film Festival 2022. Corrin discussed their role with us, preparing to play the character of Connie and what they hope the film brought to audiences.

Joely Richardson talked to us about returning to the story and this adaptation, what her role in the film meant to her and what viewers can expect.

We spoke to Matthew Duckett about his character in the story, working with Corrin and such a brilliant cast and what the story meant to him.

We also spoke to the film’s director about adapting the classic novel, why she felt it was an important story to tell with regard to female sexuality and casting Corrin in the title role.
