Sundance Film Festival returns to London for a tenth edition celebrating bold cinema and emerging talent
The tenth edition of Sundance Film Festival: London, organised by Picturehouse and the non-profit Sundance Institute, is set to take place from 6th to 9th July at Picturehouse Central, showcasing a packed programme of independent films and documentaries, as well as a Gregg Araki retrospective.
Opening and closing highlights
The festival will feature 11 films, premiering at the Sundance Film Festival in January, curated especially for London by the Sundance Institute programming team in collaboration with Picturehouse. The festival will open on 6th July with the UK premiere of Londoner Charlotte Regan’s film, Scrapper, and will close on 9th July with the UK premiere of Nicole Holofcener’s comedy-drama, You Hurt My Feelings, starring Julia Louis-Dreyfus and Tobias Menzies.
Exploring modern love and identity
The festival will present works from bold filmmakers delving into themes of love and identity. Films such as Ira Sachs’s Passages, Andrew Durham’s Fairyland, Celine Song’s Past Lives and Vuk Lungulov-Klotz’s Mutt will explore relationships, personal growth and societal challenges.
UK short films and emerging talents
The 2023 Festival will continue to support original works from established and emerging filmmakers, including a short film programme dedicated to UK productions. Debut features from directors such as Andrew Durham, Bethann Hardison, Celine Song, Charlotte Regan and Vuk Lungulov-Klotz will be showcased, along with Danny Philippou and Michael Philippou’s horror-thriller, Talk to Me.
Documentaries and International perspectives
This edition will also include a documentary strand featuring Maximilien Van Aertryck and Axel Danielson’s Fantastic Machine, Alejandra Vasquez and Sam Osborn’s Going Varsity in Mariachi and Anton Corbijn’s Squaring the Circle (The Story of Hipgnosis).
Gregg Araki retrospective
The Festival will present a repertory strand of three films by radical American filmmaker Gregg Araki, who will be attending the special screenings and Q&A sessions. The films include The Doom Generation, Three Bewildered People In The Night and Mysterious Skin.
Industry programme and Audience Favourite Award
The Festival’s second-annual Industry Programme will run alongside the Festival’s public screenings and events. Producer Anthony Bregman will deliver an in-person industry keynote talk, and a live pitching session for emerging filmmakers will be introduced. The Audience Favourite award will be announced at the close of the festival.

Sundance Film Festival: London Ticket Passes are on sale now, with priority booking for Picturehouse Members and Sundance Film Festival Ticket Passholders available from 3rd May. General ticket sales open on 9th May at 10am.
