Goat Girl announce new album Below the Waste for June release with accompanying music video

British post-punk band Goat Girl have announced the release of their third studio album, Below The Waste, set to drop on 7th June 2024, via Rough Trade Records. Coinciding with the announcement, the trio released the video for ride around, the album’s lead single.

The London-based band, comprising Lottie Pendlebury, Rosy Jones and Holly Mullineaux, recorded the album with co-producer John Spud Murphy, known for his work with Lankum and black midi. The creative process spanned several locations, primarily at Hellfire Studios in Ireland and Damon Albarn’s Studio 13 in London. The album features additional contributions from musicians Reuben Kyriakides, Nic Pendlebury, Alex McKenzie and a choir formed of family and friends, adding layers of strings, woodwind and vocals to the mix.

Lead vocalist Pendlebury shared insights into the inspiration behind ride around, mentioning the influences of Philip Glass and Deerhoof. Pendlebury emphasised a desire for genuine connections during a time of widespread isolation, seeking conversations that delve beneath the surface.

The music video for ride around was directed and produced by Luke Kulukundis and Mateo Villanueva Brandt of Foreign Body Productions, a South London company. The directors described the video as a reflection on feeling like an outsider and the oddity of togetherness against a backdrop of city life and consumerist culture.

Prior to the album’s release, Goat Girl will embark on a short underplay tour in March, including a stop at London’s ICA, followed by a record store tour. A full headline UK and European tour is expected to be announced shortly.

The album artwork for Below The Waste was crafted by Toby Evans-Jesra and Aidan Evans-Jesra, and the band members showcase their multi-instrumental talents across the album’s tracklist, which promises a diverse and textured soundscape.
