Paramount+ releases first look at Vicky McClure-led drama Insomnia set for May premiere in the UK

Paramount+ has unveiled a first look at its upcoming UK original drama series Insomnia, starring Vicky McClure, set to premiere on the streaming service in the UK on 23rd May 2024. The series, which is an adaptation of Sarah Pinborough’s bestselling novel, showcases McClure as Emma Averill, a successful career woman grappling with the fear of inheriting her mother’s psychotic breakdown as her own fortieth birthday approaches – a time when her mother had suffered a violent episode due to insomnia.

The six-part series delves into Emma’s struggle with sleeplessness that threatens her dream life, echoing her mother’s past. As her life starts to unravel, Emma is forced to confront her painful past to unearth truths that could prevent a looming tragedy.

The first look photos also feature other key cast members including Tom Cullen as Emma’s husband Robert; Smylie Bradwell and India Fowler as their children, Will and Chloe; Leanne Best as Emma’s estranged sister, Phoebe; Corinna Marlowe as Emma’s mother, Patricia; and Lyndsey Marshal as Emma’s friend Caroline. Additional cast includes Dominic Tighe, Jade Harrison, Robert Gilbert and Michelle Bonnard among others.

Directed by Börkur Sigthorsson, with Sarah Pinborough adapting her novel for the screen and serving as an executive producer, Insomnia joins Paramount+’s line-up of UK original series like The FlatshareSexy Beast and A Gentleman In Moscow.

As the anticipation builds for Insomnia’s premiere, viewers are promised a gripping psychological drama that explores the depths of family secrets and the struggle for truth amidst personal turmoil. Take a peek at the first-look images below.
