The 68th BFI London Film Festival, in collaboration with American Express, will host the European premiere of the documentary Elton John: Never Too Late at the Southbank Centre’s Royal Festival Hall on 10th October. The event, highlighted as this year’s American Express Gala, will be attended by Elton John himself along with the film’s directors, RJ Cutler and David Furnish.

The documentary offers an intimate look into the life of Elton John, detailing the extraordinary early days of his 50-year career. Directed by Cutler and Furnish, the film captures the music icon as he prepares for his final concert in North America at Dodger Stadium, reflecting on the highs and lows of his journey, including his battles with adversity, abuse and addiction.

Kristy Matheson, Director of the BFI London Film Festival, expressed her enthusiasm for the film, stating, “Directors RJ Cutler and David Furnish bring a great intimacy and exhilaration to the story of one of the world’s most accomplished and beloved musicians. We’re delighted to present Elton John: Never Too Late and give audiences a front-row seat to one of the most electrifying creative careers of our age.”

The festival will run from 9th October to 20th October 2024, with its full programme to be unveiled on 4th September 2024. In addition to the gala event, the festival will feature screenings across various venues in London and the UK, including the BFI IMAX and several partner cinemas in London’s West End. The festival will also continue to showcase immersive storytelling at the LFF Expanded exhibition at Bargehouse and additional venues across London.
