Luxury hotel Ran Baas The Palace, in Patiala, Punjab, has been nominated in Prix Versailles’s World’s Most Beautiful Hotels 2025 awards – the only Indian property among the 16 hotels listed this year. The annual series highlights outstanding new or reopened architectural projects across the globe, and this year’s diverse selection reflects a range of cultural and design influences

Ran Baas The Palace is notable for being the oldest surviving Sikh fort in Punjab, and has undergone extensive restoration to retain its architectural and royal heritage. The project sought to balance historical preservation with contemporary design, resulting in a 35-suite hotel that incorporates late Mughal, Rajput, Sikh and colonial architectural styles.

According to THE Park Hotels, who own the Patiala property, the design “reimagines the lost glory of the region’s culture and aesthetics” while maintaining Punjab’s heritage in its architecture. The hotel includes Neel, an all-day dining restaurant serving international cuisine, and The Patiala, a bar that combines nightlife experiences with local traditions of music, dance and celebration. Organisers at Prix Versailles say this recognition “reaffirms THE Park Hotels’ continued commitment to crafting design-led destinations that honour history, celebrate culture, and shape the future of Indian hospitality.”

Patiala, where Ran Baas is located, is accessible via a one-hour flight from Delhi or Jaipur, followed by a one-hour transfer from Chandigarh Airport. Room rates at the hotel start from 40,000 INR (approximately £360) per night. The full list of 2025 Prix Versailles hotel laureates can be found on the organisation’s official website.
