Noodle and Beer, specialising in Sichuan cuisine, has opened its second London location at 27 Wardour Street in Chinatown. The new branch has opened its doors this spring, following the success of its original site in Spitalfields. The expansion aims to bring the bold, spicy flavours of Sichuan to the heart of one of London’s busiest dining districts.

Founded by Xiaoxiao Wang, Noodle and Beer draws inspiration from Wang’s upbringing in China’s Sichuan Province, a region recognised for its distinctive use of spices and complex seasonings. The restaurant’s menu features a concise selection of halal-friendly dishes, with a particular focus on noodles and small plates that showcase the heat and depth typical of Sichuan cooking.

Diners can choose from a variety of starters, such as Courgette Fries and Chicken Bites. Signature small plates include Mouth-Watering Chicken, that is Sichuan chicken Salad in red chilli oil and peanut, and Choo-Shou, dumplings filled with minced chicken and lotus root.

The main menu is divided into three categories: dry noodles, rice noodles with soup, and noodles with soup. Each dish is marked with a chilli-ometer rating, ranging from one to five chillies, to indicate its level of spiciness. Among the standout noodle dishes is the Niu-Rou Mian, a soup featuring wheat noodles, braised beef, Chinese herbs, cabbage, and coriander, with a three-chilli rating. The Xian Jiao Niu-Rou, a dry noodle dish with red pepper, beef, peanuts, spring onions, and pickled greens, is rated at five chillies, making it one of the spiciest options on the menu.

The restaurant occupies two floors. The upper floor is a bright space with a mosaic floor, beechwood furniture, and red accents, while the lower level features an all-red interior and is open until 4am on Fridays and Saturdays. The downstairs area serves as an intimate setting for late-night dining and drinks.

The drinks menu includes signature cocktails such as the Sour Lush Desir and Whisky Highball Velvet Heat, alongside a curated selection of beers.
