Hotel d’Inghilterra Roma unveils Terrazza Romana rooftop bar after historic renovation

This week, Hotel d’Inghilterra Roma opened its newly restored rooftop bar, Terrazza Romana. The launch marks the beginning of the summer season at the five-star hotel, located just steps from the Spanish Steps and Via Condotti in the centre of Rome. The new rooftop venue is part of an extensive renovation aimed at enhancing the property’s historical character and offering guests panoramic views over the city.

The Terrazza Romana bar is open daily from 6pm to 11pm, providing visitors and hotel guests with views of several Roman landmarks, including Villa Medici, San Carlo al Corso, the Quirinale and the Vittoriano. The design of the terrace incorporates elements that reference both Roman heritage and contemporary Italian craftsmanship, such as wrought iron furnishings, teak seating and a colour palette inspired by the city’s sunsets. Features include artisan-glazed tiles, travertine flooring edged in grey peperino stone and a landscaped herb garden with olive and lemon trees, as well as Mediterranean flora.

The rooftop menu has been curated by head barman Angelo Di Giorgi and executive chef Andrea Sangiuliano. Drinks on offer range from signature cocktails and classic favourites, such as spritzes and martinis, to non-alcoholic options and sparkling wines. A selection of Italian liqueurs and gins is available for those staying into the evening. The drinks are accompanied by canapés created by Sangiuliano, who uses seasonal ingredients.

Since its establishment in the 19th century, Hotel d’Inghilterra Roma has been a destination for international travellers, artists and writers, including Oscar Wilde, Mark Twain, Ernest Hemingway, Hans Christian Andersen, Henry James, Elizabeth Taylor, Gregory Peck and Audrey Hepburn. The recent renovation has restored its rooms and suites with the help of master craftsmen, aiming to preserve its historic charm. The hotel also houses Café Romano, which offers a modern interpretation of Roman and Italian cuisine, and the Café Romano Lounge Bar for cocktails in an intimate setting. The restaurant’s patio on Via Borgognona is open for al fresco dining during the summer months.

According to the hotel, the opening of Terrazza Romana “marks a new chapter in the Hotel d’Inghilterra’s storied legacy – one defined by elegance, innovation and a deep devotion to offering guests an authentic and elevated Roman experience.”
