On 10th September, Dalloway Terrace in Bloomsbury will host a wine-pairing dinner featuring Sarah and Mark Driver, founders of the Rathfinny Wine Estate in East Sussex. The event, part of the venue’s ongoing Wine Dinner series, will offer guests a four-course meal paired with a selection of English sparkling wines, alongside a guided tasting and talk by the winemakers.

The evening aims to showcase English viticulture, with the Drivers sharing insights into the production techniques and stories behind each bottle. Rathfinny Estate, established in 2010 on the South Downs near Alfriston, specialises in traditionally produced sparkling wines from grapes grown on its 600-acre vineyard. Rathfinny has gained recognition in recent years as part of the growing English wine industry, which has seen increased interest and investment due to changing climate conditions and evolving consumer tastes. The founding couple, who left careers in finance to establish the vineyard, have been vocal advocates for the potential of English sparkling wine.

The dinner will take place at Dalloway Terrace, located at The Bloomsbury Hotel on Great Russell Street, with a menu that has been designed to highlight the flavour profiles of the selected wines. Guests will begin with canapés, including duck parfait on toast with walnut chutney and British cockles in citrus gel, served with Rathfinny Classic Cuvée 2018. The starter course of grilled Cornish octopus and crab bisque with tomato dressing will be paired with the estate’s Blanc de Blancs 2017. For the main course, slow-cooked beef with potato hash, trumpet mushrooms and squash purée will be served alongside Rathfinny’s Blanc de Noirs 2018 and 2020. The evening concludes with a dessert of rhubarb and raspberry tart with clotted cream ice cream, accompanied by Rosé 2018.
