Sri Lankan street food restaurant Adoh! opening in Covent Garden

New Sri Lankan street food restaurant Adoh! is scheduled to open on 8th September in Covent Garden. The venture comes from husband-and-wife team Eroshan and Aushi Meewella, the founders of the Kolamba restaurant group. The couple, who launched Kolamba in Soho in 2019 and Kolamba East in Shoreditch earlier this year, aim to bring the vibrant street food culture of Sri Lanka to the West End.

Inspired by roadside eateries across the island, Adoh! will focus on dishes typically found in Sri Lanka’s bustling street food scene, rather than traditional home cooking. Central to the menu will be Kothu, a dish of chopped roti, vegetables and eggs, cooked on a grill and finished with curry sauce. The restaurant will offer four variations: crab, chicken, mutton and jackfruit. Other options include mutton rolls, devilled sausages and Vadai – savoury lentil doughnuts served with a trio of chutneys. A coastal-style chilli prawn toast with tamarind sauce, fried chicken with curry leaf waffle and roadside seafood fried rice will also feature. For dessert, Salted Jaggery Soft Serve will be available, incorporating a traditional Sri Lankan syrup.

The name Adoh! is derived from a common exclamation used in greetings or expressions of surprise. According to the Meewellas, the new restaurant aims to “channel the energy of the island’s street food culture with a menu of comforting favourites, designed for quick, hearty eating.” The aesthetic has been influenced by street culture and lorry art, with a visual identity developed in collaboration with Sri Lankan creative strategist Leah Marikkar and Fold Media Collective. The interior, designed by Whitebox London, features raw materials such as corrugated metal and stainless steel, and includes murals by Sri Lankan artist Ruwangi “Roo” Amarasinghe.

The restaurant will operate on a walk-in only basis, seating up to 70 guests indoors, with an additional 12 covers available outside. It will be open for lunch and dinner seven days a week. To mark the opening, they will be giving away 100 complimentary portions of Vadai to the first guests when doors open at 11.30am on launch day.
