Masa Takayama’s first UK restaurant, Tobi Masa, opens this week in Mayfair

Japanese chef Masayoshi “Masa” Takayama is opening his first UK restaurant this October, bringing his acclaimed omakase dining experience to London. The restaurant, named Tobi Masa, will be located at The Chancery Rosewood – a hotel in Mayfair housed within the former US Embassy building. The launch marks the chef’s long-anticipated expansion into the British food scene, following the success of his three-Michelin-starred flagship, Masa, in New York City.
Takayama, widely regarded as a pioneer in modern Japanese cuisine, is known for his meticulous approach to sushi and his emphasis on ingredient quality and traditional technique. Tobi Masa reflects this philosophy, blending Japanese culinary traditions with elements of Western fine dining. The London menu will feature a selection of dishes drawn from the chef’s repertoire in New York, including Toro Tartare with caviar and Peking Duck Tacos. These offerings have been adapted specifically for their new market, and will be served alongside creations developed exclusively for the Mayfair location.
The arrival of Takayama in London comes amid a growing appetite for high-end Japanese dining in the capital. He has built an international reputation for elevating sushi to the level of haute cuisine, and his restaurants pride themselves on for a minimalist aesthetic and focus on seasonality. This one promises to be no exception.
