The Jugged Hare to host Lyon-inspired Beaujolais Nouveau dinner in City of London

City of London gastropub The Jugged Hare will host a special one-night-only dinner on Thursday 20th November to mark the arrival of the 2025 Beaujolais Nouveau. Held in the venue’s Josephine Room, which is designed to evoke the atmosphere of a traditional French bistro, the evening will feature a five-course Lyonnais-inspired menu created by head chef Rafael Liuth, paired with wines from the French region.
Beaujolais Nouveau Day, though rooted in French tradition, has gained popularity in the UK in recent years, celebrated by wine enthusiasts and Francophiles alike. In keeping with tradition, The Jugged Hare’s event is timed to coincide with the annual release of new Beaujolais (a light, fruity red wine made from the Gamay grape and traditionally released on the third Thursday of November), aiming to celebrate the French tradition with a menu that reflects the culinary heritage of Lyon – a city often considered the gastronomic capital of France.
Specialising in game-focused cuisine, restaurant will present a menu that includes classic regional dishes such as Saucisson Brioche made with house-made pork and pistachio sausage, Pike Quenelle with crayfish sauce, and a Salade Lyonnaise incorporating frisée, smoked bacon, croutons and a soft-boiled egg. Other offerings include Cervelle de Canut, a traditional cheese spread once popular with Lyon’s silk workers, and a candied praline tart for dessert. Wines will include the newly released Beaujolais Nouveau from Georges Duboeuf, followed by more structured selections from the Fleurie Cru appellation.
The event is priced at £65 per person, which includes all five courses and accompanying wine pairings. Seating is limited and advance booking is required.
