De Nadas to open fifth Argentinian empanada shop near Kew Gardens station this November

London-based Argentinian empanada specialists, De Nadas will open their fifth location next to Kew Gardens station this month. The new site will occupy the former premises of longstanding butcher Pether, offering a mix of takeaway and limited dine-in options with the aim of serving the local community a range of traditional South American fare.

Founded in 2022 by Nako Martinez, Nico Buyo and Annabel Fox, De Nadas describes itself as the UK’s first empanadería – a term used in Argentina for a shop specialising in the delicious turnover pastries. The company already operates branches in Notting Hill, Shoreditch, Stoke Newington and Bethnal Green, where all of the brand’s hand-shaped empanadas are currently produced.

The Kew location will serve 15 varieties – baked rather than fried – including meat, vegetarian and vegan options, with fillings ranging from Classic Beef, Ham & Cheese and Spicy Lamb to Blue Cheese & Pear, Creamy Spinach and Vegan Squash & Kale. Larger orders for events will also be available. In addition to their signature offering, the shop will sell Argentinian beef and criollo sausages for home cooking, as well as alfajores (a traditional South American biscuit), chimichurri sauce, dulce de leche and yerba mate. Alongside soft drinks, there will be a selection of South American vermouth and wines, among them De Nadas’ own-label Malbec, and the team plans to host regular wine tastings, showcasing producers such as Zuccardi.

The new outlet has family-friendly seating areas at both the front and rear. Children’s meals will be offered, to include an empanada, juice and ice cream, along with complimentary self-serve popcorn (known as pochoclo in Argentina), and for the grownups, there’s a weekday lunchbox deal – three empanadas with salad – which will be available from Monday to Friday between 12pm and 3pm.

The founders are excited to “bring the cult-status of empanadas to London”, offering an authentic taste of Argentinian street food – now all the way across the city.
