Set in a prestigious neighbourhood in the Home Counties called Richford Lake, Wild Cherry is the new six-part BBC drama series written by BAFTA award winner Nicôle Lecky, which explores mother-daughter relationships, the negative impact of social media, and the entitled behaviour of the wealthy.

When two teenage best friends, Grace (Imogen Faires) and Allegra (Amelia May), are accused of sharing inappropriate content online at their exclusive private school, the scandal draws in their mothers, Juliet (Eve Best) and Lorna (Carmen Ejojo), as they try to navigate their way as parents of teens, whilst keeping their reputations intact. The girls try to forge their own paths as they grapple with their independence, peer pressure and the world outside of their affluent backgrounds – but things start to unravel in their friendship group and the shiny veneer of their privilege starts to fade.

The Upcoming had the pleasure of speaking to showrunner Lecky (who also stars as life-coach Gigi in the show) about what inspired her to make this series. Imogen Faires and Amelia May talked about their roles as Grace and Allegra, working alongside their onscreen mothers in the series and the relationship dynamics, and how the storylines about social media are so relevant in today’s world.
