Cuban pop-up café to serve free coffee and rum cocktails at Kaffeine in Fitzrovia

A Cuban-themed pop-up café will open in central London later this month, offering free coffee in the morning and complimentary rum cocktails in the evening. The four-day event, named Café Con Ron, will run in the last week of November at Kaffeine, the independent coffee shop on Eastcastle Street near Oxford Circus. The pop-up aims to bring a taste of Cuban culture to the capital by celebrating two of the island nation’s most recognisable exports: coffee and rum. It is inspired by the shared rituals of daily life in Santiago de Cuba – the city considered the spiritual home of Cuban rum-making.

Each morning from 8.30 to 10.30, visitors will be able to sample traditional Cuban coffee drinks free of charge, including Cuban Coffee, Cortadito and Café con Leche, served alongside a sweet merienda bite. No booking is required and entry is free. Then, in the evenings from 5.30 to 8.30, the venue will shift its focus to rum cocktails made using Ron Santiago de Cuba’s Añejo 8 Years Old, a golden-amber rum aged in white oak barrels. The cocktail menu includes drinks such as Café Invierno, Café Ron Leche and La Espuma Dorada, all of which blend coffee and rum with additional ingredients like coconut cream, chocolate bitters and winter-spiced honey.

Live Cuban music will accompany the evening sessions, with performances from The Latin Formula, a traditional Cuban band, and DJ sets by London-based James Onur of Earthly Measures Records. A live musical call, inspired by Cuba’s historic pregón street vendors, will signal the transition from coffee to cocktails each evening. The team says, “Café Con Ron brings Cuban soul to London, inviting visitors to experience both sides of the Santiago de Cuba story from morning Cubanos to evening cocktails.”
