Xi Home Dumplings Bay launches festive Chinese menu and events for Christmas in Spitalfields

Xi Home Dumplings Bay in Spitalfields is introducing a selection of festive dishes and events this December to mark the Christmas season. The limited-time menu, available from the 1st December, draws inspiration from the Northeastern Chinese heritage of the restaurant’s founder, Wenjun. In addition to the seasonal food offerings, the restaurant will also host dumpling-making classes on 7th and 14th of the month.

The festive menu includes four traditional Chinese dishes that reflect Wenjun’s childhood experiences with family cooking. Among them is a dish of Deep-fried Shredded Radish Balls, a popular holiday snack in parts of China, enjoyed particularly for its crisp exterior and soft interior. Another dish featured is Prawn and Fish Roe Wontons dressed in a house dry-mix sauce, topped with chilli oil, and accompanied by pickled Bean sprouts. A standout item on the menu is a clay pot of Braised Beef Short Ribs cooked with tomato and sweet cabbage. This dish is inspired by Wenjun’s grandfather’s winter stews and combines elements of Northeastern Chinese cooking with Western-style slow braising. Rounding out the menu is a dessert of Osmanthus-stewed Pear, served with cream cheese and jelly – a nod to traditional iced fruits left to freeze outdoors during cold winters.

In addition to the main menu, Xi Home Dumplings Bay is also launching two Christmas-themed doughnuts. The first, named the Christmas Wreath donut, is savoury and filled with New Orleans-style chicken. The second is a sweet option featuring a pistachio filling and festive red and white decoration. Both are available to order online for collection from the restaurant, priced at £7 each or £12 for two. For those looking for gifts, the restaurant is offering bottles of its house-made chilli oil (£8.50), vouchers for dumpling-making classes (£49.46), and branded merchandise such as mugs, tote bags, and fridge magnets.
