China Tang at The Dorchester will mark the Lunar New Year 2026 with a series of events and special dishes in February, celebrating the arrival of the Year of the Horse. The festivities will take place on the evenings of 17th and 18th February, and will include traditional performances, symbolic décor, and a menu of Cantonese dishes rooted in themes of prosperity, abundance and renewal.

The celebration will feature a traditional lion dance, a ritual believed to bring good fortune for the year ahead. Executive Chef Chong Choi Fong has curated a selection of ten auspicious dishes for the occasion, each chosen for its cultural significance. Among the highlights are Lo Hei (a raw fish or abalone salad symbolising shared good fortune), Sea Moss and Bamboo Heart with Chinese Mushrooms (representing wealth), and Lobster with XO Sauce on Crispy Noodles (signifying ambition and strength). Other dishes include Wok Fried Whole Tiger Prawn, Cornucopia of Mixed Seafood and Poultry, Steamed Whole Dover Sole, Red Cooked British Squab, and Snow Pea Shoots topped with White Crab Meat, each reflecting different aspects of traditional symbolism such as courage, unity, and the return of spring.

To conclude the meal, guests will be offered Pan Fried Traditional Chinese Rice Cake, which symbolises progress, and a Year of the Horse Celebration Dessert created exclusively for the event. These special dishes will be served alongside the restaurant’s regular menu, which includes signature dim sum and Peking Duck, and will be available in the main dining room as well as in private spaces named Ping, Pang and Pong.

China Tang’s weekday Yum Cha menu, comprising a selection of dim sum baskets priced according to Chinese numerology, will also continue during the festivities. The bar will offer themed cocktails, such as the Art Deco Cocktail Flight inspired by 1930s Shanghai.

For those in Knightsbridge, sister restaurant Dim Sum by China Tang at Harrods will offer a relaxed setting for Lunar New Year celebrations, with a curated dim sum menu in the Harrods Dining Hall.

Nathalie Ford, VP Europe and Middle East for China Tang, commented, “China Tang has always been a place for celebration, a restaurant where guests come together to share exceptional food and memorable moments. This time of year brings such energy and excitement to China Tang, whether it’s a festive lunch, a New Year toast or a Lunar New Year gathering, our guests know they can count on an atmosphere that’s unmistakably China Tang.”
