Dopamine dining: Rosa’s Thai is offering the antidote to British weather in Tower Bridge
Thai restaurant group Rosa’s Thai is launching a limited dining experience at its Tower Bridge location from 22nd to 28th April, combining seasonal affective disorder (SAD) lamp technology with complimentary Thai New Year dishes.
The experience, which the restaurant chain has named the Sunshine Hit, offers guests a 90-minute dining slot at a table fitted with SAD lamps designed to mimic natural sunlight. The initiative comes in response to research suggesting that 41% of Brits report that the UK’s unpredictable weather negatively affects their mood, according to figures cited by the BBC. Rosa’s say the concept is intended to provide diners with a dopamine boost during what can be an unsettled time of year weather-wise.
Bookings are available through the Rosa’s Thai website, with sittings running between 12pm and 6pm across the seven-day period. There is no minimum spend requirement, and guests will receive complimentary dishes from the restaurant’s Songkran Specials menu at no additional cost.
The complimentary dishes on offer include Larb Gai – a minced chicken salad with chilli, lime, fresh herbs, toasted rice and crispy shallots – and Pineapple Fried Rice, a stir-fried jasmine rice dish with vegetables, sweet pineapple and turmeric. Both dishes have been created specifically for the Songkran period, which marks the Thai New Year.
Rosa’s Thai has come a long way since its humble beginnings as a street food stall on Brick Lane’s Sunday market. The group has since expanded to more than 40 locations across the UK, including in Manchester, Birmingham, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Bristol, Leeds and Cardiff, among others. All recipes are developed and approved by co-owner Saiphin Moore, with ingredients sourced directly from Thailand, including tamarind from Phetchabun province and curry pastes produced at a family factory in Trang, southern Thailand.
The Tower Bridge restaurant is the sole venue for the Sunshine Hit dining experience. Availability is described as limited, and the restaurant is encouraging early booking via its website.
