Paired, the dining and music series that combines the work of chefs and DJs – in their words, to “bring together talented people from complementary disciplines and watch as the magic unfolds” – is holding its next event on 18th July. This time, Lisbon and London-based chef Leo Carreira and electronic musician Richie Hawtin will be co-hosting a night of fine food and fine beats at The Magazine space at the Serpentine North Gallery. Run by the Charlotte Street culinary hub Carousel and the audio-visual arts festival AVA, the night is open for bookings now.

As practitioners from complementary disciplines join forces, the concept presents menus and soundtracks developed together to reflect shared influences. The organisers explain the music informs the menu and the menu informs the music, with the aim of creating a single, coordinated experience for the audience. The upcoming date is the first in a planned summer series at the venue, with further chefs and artists to be confirmed. Carreira, whose restaurant credits include Luso, Londrino and The Sea, The Sea, will work alongside Hawtin, a long-standing figure in techno and electronic performance.

The evening will take place in the Zaha Hadid-designed extension of the Magazine building. It will begin with a multi-course set menu created by Carreira, described as a seafood-led interpretation of contemporary Portuguese cuisine prepared specifically for the occasion. The food will be accompanied by a selection of Japanese sake chosen from Hawtin’s collection at Our Sake Club, his Berlin venue co-founded with Laura Käding-Hawtin. Following the meal, the dining area will be cleared and the DJ will perform a set for an audience of 180 guests. Between dinner and the later part of the evening, guests will also be able to view the David Hockney exhibition at Serpentine North.

Doors open at 4.30pm, with dinner running from 5 till 7pm. Tickets are priced at £175 and include the set menu, with an additional drinks pairing available separately. Tickets for the after-party alone cost £45 and allow access to the bar and the DJ set from 7.30 to 10pm.
