Haldiram’s unveils exclusive dessert and ice cream range at London flagship restaurant
Indian food brand Haldiram’s has introduced a new dessert and ice cream collection at its Leicester Square restaurant, available only at the Irving Street site. The new selection follows the launch of the London outpost in June of this year – their first full-service venue in the UK. The 3,000 sq ft restaurant, which seats 120, was enormously popular as soon as the doors opened, with queues forming in the street.
The new dessert menu applies alternative formats to established Indian sweets. It includes a Chai Affogato (a version of the Italian dessert made with chai and ice cream), Gajar Halwa Spring Rolls with the traditional carrot pudding presented in a fried pastry wrapper, Gulab Jamun Churros served with rabri, and a Dark Chocolate and Panjeeri Crumble Tart. There will also be a range of ice creams in flavours including Masala Chai, Saffron and Mango and Milk Cake Crumble, all drawing on Indian sweets too. The treats sit alongside the existing savoury menu, which features regional dishes such as Chole Bhature, Pav Bhaji and Raj Kachori, as well as a range of chaat.
Haldiram’s was founded in 1937 and now operates in more than 80 countries. The company began as a snack and sweet manufacturer in India and built a retail business around packaged products, with the restaurant operations that later developed mostly following a quick-service model. The Irving Street premises offers a more formal, sit-down setting with an expanded menu, as well as housing a retail area that sells the company’s packaged sweets, snacks and other products for customers to take away.
Rhea Agarwal, commercial director for the company’s UK and EU factions, said: “Following the incredible response to our opening, we’re excited to give guests even more reasons to visit. Desserts have always played an important role in Indian celebrations and family dining, and this collection allows us to celebrate those traditions while introducing something completely new and different for our London guests.”
