The Chop brings quick-service salads to London Bridge
The Chop has opened on Weston Street in London Bridge, serving a menu of four signature chopped salads in bowls or toasted wraps. Open Monday to Friday from 11.30am to 3pm, the eatery serves office workers, students and other passers-by looking for a quick midday meal near the Shard.
The concept has been developed by Rhubarb Hospitality Collection (RHC), whose London portfolio includes venues at Sky Garden, 22 Bishopsgate and the Royal Albert Hall. They describe The Chop as a faster, simplified version of the traditional salad bar, with a fixed set of recipes developed by chefs working on the café teams, rather than a build-your-own counter.
Customers can choose from four options. The Sticky Korean Style Pork Belly salad combines iceberg lettuce, Marcona almonds, carrots, mooli, mangetout, pickled red chillies, crispy rice, sesame seeds and a soy dressing, and is also offered in a vegan version. Then there’s the Grilled Chicken Caesar, which includes grilled chicken breast, kale, romaine and iceberg lettuce, crispy chickpeas, bacon, hispi cabbage, chives, Caesar dressing and parmesan. The Butter Chicken comes with cucumber, radishes, pickled red onions, tomato, iceberg lettuce, tamarind chutney, Bombay mix, coriander and mint. Finally, the Tuna and Lemon Aioli pairs the eponymous ingredients with a soft-boiled egg, five bean and sweetcorn mix, capers, rocket and baby spinach.
Each recipe can be ordered as a bowl or as a hot toasted wrap finished with crispy cheese. Bowls start at £11, while wraps are priced from £6 for a medium to £9 for a large. Side dishes, including loaded roast potatoes and chocolate chip cookies, start at £3, and meal deals are available from £9.
To mark the opening, The Chop is running a 50% discount throughout September for customers who follow its Instagram account, @thechopsalad_. There will also be a year-round 20% discount for students and holders of Blue Light cards (the discount scheme for NHS staff, emergency services personnel and social care workers).
The new venue sits inside Chapter London Bridge, a student accommodation development just down the road from the Shard, placing the outlet within walking distance of both a substantial student population and the offices and hospitals clustered around London Bridge station. Here’s hoping those busy learners and sleep-deprived health workers can tick a nourishing lunch off their list of worries!
