Tottenham salvage a point against conservative United

Manchester United thought that they clinched all three points at White Hart Lane, but Clint Dempsey’s 90^th minute equaliser spoilt the party for the Premier League leaders.

The 19-times Premier League champions took charge of the match in the first half after Van Persie’s 25^th minute header against the home side. It was a real team goal that was created by Cleverley, who found his team-mate Kagawa, and the Japanese player fed the ball to the Dutch striker who put the ball calmly past Lloris. 

The first half was all United, as Spurs players continued to fail to read each other’s game. Tottenham could have equalised early on the second half, but De Gea made an exceptional save from Clint Dempsey from a short range shot to force the ball out for a corner. 

Wayne Rooney made his appearance after the hour mark, as Fergie took off Shinji Kagawa. The English international made an instant impact on the match as he charged down to the opposition goal, creating more pressure for Tottenham defenders to deal with.

With just ten minutes remaining, the home side had their best chance of the game when Defoe was in the box and he had plenty of time to put the shot away, but as he hesitated, he allowed the challenge from Ferdinand which proved to be crucial.

On the dying second of the match, the fans that stayed before were rewarded as Dempsey found the back of the net after Lennon unselfishly left the ball for the American to make it 1-1. 

United remain five points ahead of Manchester City and Tottenham are sitting fourth just four points behind Chelsea, who beat Arsenal 2-1 at Stamford Bridge. The victory for Chelsea was the first one at home since 23^rd December, when Blues demolished Aston Villa 8-0.
